Words of welcome

Dear ECCO IBD Community,
Dear Friends,

I am delighted to welcome you all to the ECCO’24 congress in Stockholm on February 21-24, 2024. Both the unusually high rate of early registration and the highest number of abstracts ever submitted already indicate that we will have a high congress attendance. All the more reason to look forward to it.

The Stockholm congress will be the venue for presentation of ECCO’s five-year REACH strategy. The message behind each letter will be presented in Stockholm. Let me tell you that REACH perfectly complements this year's congress theme "Crossing borders in IBD".
Crossing borders in IBD means doing so on several levels. On the one hand, it is about crossing borders to define new therapies, new strategies and also new endpoints; on the other hand, it is about caring for IBD patients in all parts of the world. Speakers and panellists from around the world will discuss these topics.

In addition, we will “revisit” clinical trials, visualise IBD by diving into the latest endoscopic developments, explore the gut-brain axis and metabolism in intestinal inflammation, and place the nutrition therapy in our IBD treatment algorithm. For daily clinical practice, Clinical Challenges will address key issues in IBD. The programme will be complemented by excellent oral presentations ranging from basic science to clinical trials. We are particularly looking forward to the ECCO Lecture, which will be delivered for the first time by a paediatrician, Jean-Pierre Hugot entitled “NOD2 and Crohn’s Disease: What have we learned?”

Those delegates who cannot travel to Stockholm are invited to join us online through the virtual platform, where we will be live-streaming the entire Scientific Programme as well as the DOPs sessions.
Once again, this year we have a fantastic Educational Programme that is only possible thanks to the commitment of the ECCO Community. Thank you to everyone who has contributed!

Take the time to visit the Poster Exhibition. We are delighted about the high number of abstracts received this year and the extraordinary content of our reviewed selection will be displayed at the congress venue.
The ECCO Booth is located in the Entrance Hall and the Industry Exhibition can be found in Hall A where vibrant exchange is expected with our industry partners. Check out our ECCO IBD App if you want to be up-to-date and make sure you don’t miss out on our ECCO Interaction evening on Friday.

I look forward to welcoming you all in Stockholm!

Yours sincerely,

Britta Siegmund
ECCO President 2023-2025
