The 12th ECCO Ultrasound Workshop – Advanced, organised in collaboration with ESGAR and IBUS, took place during the 20th Congress of ECCO in Berlin in February 2025 as part of ECCO's Educational Programme. The workshop was attended by 166 participants and brought together experts from various countries, facilitating valuable discussions on the latest advancements in intestinal ultrasound (IUS) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

The workshop featured a series of oral presentations, each followed by interactive discussions incorporating ultrasound video case studies. Gabriele Dragoni from Italy and Bram Verstockt from Belgium opened the session with presentations on scoring systems for Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC), exploring their practical applications in both clinical and research settings. The first session concluded with a discussion on the role of IUS in clinical trials, presented by Mariangela Allocca.

The second part of the workshop focused on the ultrasound assessment of complications. Krisztina Gecse led a session on evaluating strictures, followed by Alessandra Zilli from Italy, who discussed the detection of abscesses. Christian Maaser concluded the session with insights into future developments in IUS. Participants actively engaged with the video presentations, resulting in dynamic discussions and an exchange of clinical experiences.

For many attendees, this workshop marked the final stage of the IBUS IUS training curriculum. At the conclusion of the meeting, they completed an evaluation test to obtain the IBUS training certificate.

The interactive format and relevant content were highly appreciated by participants. Immediate feedback highlighted the workshop’s value in expanding knowledge and enhancing the application of IUS in the management of patients with IBD.
