Although I had to postpone my visit to Städtisches Klinikum Lüneburg due to the global COVID-19 outbreak, I was finally able to participate in intestinal ultrasound (IUS) training there in August to September 2022. I thank everyone involved in providing me with this great opportunity.
The purpose of my visit was to learn about the use of IUS for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in daily practice in Europe. Currently, ECCO and the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) Group are collaborating closely and leading the field of IBD-IUS. Prior to my visit, we had already started to employ IBD IUS in our facility at the Kyorin University School of Medicine in Tokyo. I was therefore very keen to learn about the IUS techniques and training system that are being employed in a leading European facility. During my visit, I realised that IBD IUS is commonly used as a point-of-care technique in the clinical setting and contributes to clinical decision-making. I was also able to experience many IBD IUS cases and to obtain valuable educational feedback. I appreciate the mentorship and friendship of my supervisors and colleagues in Lüneburg.
