Y-ECCO Members’ Address
Y-ECCO Committee Chair
Dear Y-ECCO Friends,
As the days are getting longer and spring has sprung in earnest, the ECCO Congress may feel like a distant memory. However, it is not long until the abstract submission window for ECCO 2026 in Stockholm opens. “Better three hours too soon than a minute too late”, so why delay? As Y-ECCO Members, do remember that you are eligible to apply for the Best Abstract Award, so make sure your membership is up to date and get your research ready for the 2026 ECCO Congress.
We have some new Y-ECCO Initiatives coming up. First, we have the Y-ECCO/SciCom webinar “Molecular frontiers in IBD: a deep dive into omics and beyond for IBD Specialists” on May 20, 2025. This webinar aims to provide all IBD specialists with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the scientific approaches we take to understand the disease, so do sign up for this. Then, later in the year, we will join forces with the emerging EULAR (European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology) network for a joint webinar “From Gut to Joint: Essential Insights for Rheumatologists and Gastroenterologists”, so keep an eye out for the date when it is announced.
ECCO needs you! Becoming a reviewer is a great way to get involved in ECCO and JCC. Being an engaged and constructive peer reviewer is a critical part of the scientific process, and you can help improve research and support the organisation by reviewing papers, congress abstracts, grants and fellowships. Read cutting-edge work, learn a lot and stay up to date—you can find the details and how to sign up on the ECCO Website.
Finally, as we were heading into the summer, we hosted our 3rd Y-ECCO Mentorship Forum, which took place in Vienna at the end of June. The last two editions have been fantastic events. The Mentorship Forum offers an opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and rub shoulders with a faculty which includes no less than the past and present ECCO Presidents. Informal and friendly, it is thoroughly enjoyable for participants and faculty alike. While it is full for this year, keep an eye on the ECCO Newsletters for future calls for this and other opportunities to get involved. We want to encourage all Y-ECCO Members to get involved, whatever your level of experience, and this goes for all calls. So just drop in an application and even if at first you don’t succeed….
With best wishes,
Robin Dart
