Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to ECCO 2026, the 21st Congress of ECCO, which will be held in Stockholmsmässan, Sweden on February 18–21, 2026. The ECCO REACH strategy, introduced in 2024, is a five-year plan designed to improve IBD care, with ‘REACH’ being the acronym for five key goals: Rapid diagnosis and treatment, Equitable access to care, Attainment of sustainable IBD care, discovery of Causes of IBD and Holistic IBD care.
The 2026 theme is the fifth of these pillars, holistic IBD care, whereby the patient is treated as a whole person. Holistic care is a comprehensive, patient-centred approach that moves beyond traditional medicine and includes psychological and social well-being alongside physical well-being. This approach recognises the interconnection of a person’s overall health and well-being. The focus is on wellness and prevention and the aim is to enhance practice and improve outcomes.
The Congress provides a fantastic opportunity for nurses to contribute and develop professionally, enhance practice and improve outcomes within the IBD field. Furthermore, it offers a unique platform to showcase your work at a global level. By sharing and exchanging knowledge, we can move forward collectively to enhance IBD Nurse practice.
In recent years, the submissions for nurse abstracts have been increasing annually. This reflects the dedication of nurses to the advancement of IBD knowledge. You are encouraged to raise the bar yet again and continue the momentum in 2026: we are aiming for yet another very successful year for nurse submissions.
Please take this opportunity to share your scientific work by submitting an abstract via the ECCO Portal, and be sure to review the important information about submission guidelines and deadlines. We are also pleased to announce that four abstracts will be selected for oral presentation during the 20th N-ECCO Network Meeting. The remaining authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work as posters. In addition, a prize will be awarded for the best poster, as judged by the N-ECCO Committee.
The Congress is also a wonderful opportunity to network with colleagues from across the globe, to share knowledge and ideas and make lasting connections. Through these networks we can build on our knowledge, enhance practice, improve outcomes and provide holistic care for our patients.
We look forward to receiving your abstracts and to welcoming you in Stockholm.
