Changes ahead for ECCO’27 Copenhagen: please read before booking flights!
ECCO President

Behind the scenes, the Governing Board has been fine-tuning the Scientific Programme for the ECCO Congress, to optimise the use of time and space and to give extra focus to popular formats.
So, before you finalise your travel arrangements for ECCO’27 in Copenhagen, please note the following key changes.
The Congress will officially commence on Thursday lunchtime at 12:15 with all the ECCO Faculty on stage, as usual. However, our prestigious ECCO Lecture will now open the Scientific Programme instead of being held on the Saturday morning. We are delighted that Miles Parkes will deliver the lecture on “Pinpointing genetic, immunological and microbial contributors for IBD”. This will set the scene for the theme of the ECCO’27 Congress, which in the fourth year of the REACH Strategy will be “Causes of IBD” (reflecting the letter ‘C’ in REACH).
There will no longer be Satellite Symposia in the early morning or evening; instead there will be an increase in the number of Satellite Symposia held at lunchtime on each day. This will suit delegates and industry alike and will allow for an earlier start to the ECCO General Assembly on Thursday evening. This year there are three key Governing Board elections—for the incoming President, Secretary and Treasurer—so do ensure that you come along, listen to the candidates and cast your votes.
In the digital age, it can be tricky to find the right format for Scientific Poster abstracts. I believe that ECCO has a fitting and rewarding formula: the ECCO Poster Tour helps delegates to navigate more than 1500 posters every year, in a dynamic and engaging way. Poster Chairs lead small groups of delegates through specialised poster sections, offering keen observations and engaging authors with probing questions. So, to allow proper quality time for this popular format, at ECCO’27 the Guided Poster Tour will move to Saturday lunchtime.
The Scientific Programme will also be extended on Saturday, with more Digital Oral Presentations (DOP) on Saturday morning and with an extended Oral Presentations programme on the plenary stage, which will now finish at 15:00 in the afternoon.
We hope that these changes will give delegates more time to attend the diverse activities offered at the Congress. All the favourites will stay the same; the rich Educational Programme will start on Wednesday, the N-ECCO Network Meeting and the IFFCA conference will offer networking opportunities for nurses and IBD patients and patient representatives, and on Friday evening the Hearts and Minds Interaction will once again take place at the Øksnehallen.
We hope you enjoy the new format for the ECCO Congress. For more news on the ECCO’27 Congress, from abstract and COI submission deadlines to the full programme as it emerges, I recommend you subscribe to the ECCO Newsletter and follow ECCO on LinkedIn.
