ECCO IBD Curriculum Self-Certification – Interview with Anas Beshyah
1. Could you tell us about your medical background: where are you based, and what is your specific area of interest within the IBD field?
I graduated from Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University in the UAE and completed a five-year residency there. I subsequently moved to the UK, where I completed Internal Medicine Training (IMT Stage 1). I am currently finishing gastroenterology specialty training, due for completion in September 2026, after which I will be undertaking an IBD fellowship. My primary interest in IBD is the management of complex Crohn’s Disease.
2. How did you first come across the ECCO IBD Curriculum Self-Certification quizzes, and what motivated you to complete the full series?
I found the ECCO IBD Curriculum while seeking online courses to enhance my knowledge and skills in IBD. The modules are engaging and I was motivated to complete the quizzes, particularly as I like to see things through once I start them.
3. With 15 categories to cover, did you approach them in order, or did you start with the topics you were most familiar with?
I prefer a systematic approach; therefore I chose to complete the categories in order.
4. As the first person to navigate the entire 15-quiz suite, how did you find the user experience of the ECCO e-Learning Platform?
I found the user experience very good overall. Although there were some initial issues, the ECCO Team was highly responsive and resolved them quickly, making the process smooth and well supported.
5. The quizzes require a minimum score of 80% to pass. Which category did you find the most challenging?
I found the “special circumstances” module most challenging, as it integrates a wide range of topics, including surgical management, individualised patient decision-making and broader clinical knowledge.
6. How well do you feel the quiz questions reflect the real-world clinical challenges you face in managing IBD patients?
The quizzes reflect real-world clinical practice well and provide a valuable opportunity to revisit key guidelines. They also emphasise the importance of taking an individualised and holistic approach when managing patients with IBD.
7. What would be your top tip for other healthcare professionals looking to successfully complete all 15 quizzes?
My top tip would be to approach the quizzes consistently and use them as a learning tool rather than just a test. Taking time to review explanations and revisit weaker areas helps consolidate knowledge and makes the overall learning experience much more valuable.
Thank you for the interview and all the best for the future.
