Report on the 76th ECCO Educational Workshop, Siófok, Hungary
The 76th ECCO Educational Workshop was held in Hungary on June 12, 2025, as part of the Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Society of Gastroenterology. The workshop provided a unique opportunity to discuss questions arising throughout the care of IBD patients, with the participation of renowned IBD experts such as Gionata Fiorino from Italy and Glen Doherty from Ireland. The workshop was co-organised and co-chaired by Tamás Molnár, head of the Gastroenterology Centre in Szeged, and Pál Miheller, head of the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology in Budapest.
The programme was divided into two sessions, each of which focused on clinical case presentations highlighting different aspects of IBD care. Junior experts from Hungarian IBD centres were invited to actively participate and present interesting and challenging cases, fostering an interactive and collaborative learning environment. All presentations were based on real-life clinical cases and demonstrated the practical application of ECCO e-Guide algorithms in everyday clinical decision-making. The first session covered topics related to Crohn's Disease, including the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties of perianal manifestation and mild disease course. The second session focused on the diagnostic algorithm of Ulcerative Colitis and explored treatment options for steroid-refractory acute severe relapses.
Nearly 60 ECCO Members participated in the event, which aimed to explore current challenges in IBD management. Attendees were encouraged to actively engage in deciding on questions arising from treatment and diagnostic decisions, supplementing the presentations with their questions and insights. Feedback emphasised the benefits of the interactive format and the high educational value of the event.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the ECCO Faculty Members for their participation in the workshop. Their presentations, professional insights and experience contributed greatly to the success of the event. The ECCO Office was represented by Bogomil Yotov, for whose assistance we are also grateful.
