The 75th ECCO Educational Workshop took place in central Tallinn, Estonia on June 6, 2025. The event was organised by the ECCO Office and National Representatives Hendrik Laja and Vadim Brjalin with support from the president of the Estonian Society of Gastroenterology, Karin Kull.

The 76th ECCO Educational Workshop was held in Hungary on June 12, 2025, as part of the Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Society of Gastroenterology. The workshop provided a unique opportunity to discuss questions arising throughout the care of IBD patients, with the participation of renowned IBD experts such as Gionata Fiorino from Italy and Glen Doherty from Ireland. The workshop was co-organised and co-chaired by Tamás Molnár, head of the Gastroenterology Centre in Szeged, and Pál Miheller, head of the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology in Budapest.

The 77th ECCO Educational Workshop took place at the Lima Convention Center, Peru, on August 29, 2025. This event, the first ECCO Workshop of the year to be held outside Europe, brought together more than 130 participants from different countries of South America and was celebrated during SPED 2025 (Gastroenterology Panamerican Week), which had started on the previous day. The workshop featured interactive discussion on various clinical scenarios and hot topics in IBD.

The 24th IBD Intensive Course for Trainees will be held on February 18, 2026, in Stockholm, just ahead of the ECCO Congress. Since its launch in 2003, this course has become a key part of ECCO’s educational offerings, providing advanced trainees with a focused and high-quality learning experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). It continues to serve as a vital stepping stone for young clinicians seeking to deepen their expertise and connect with peers and mentors from across Europe and beyond.

Continuing a well-established tradition, the ECCO 2026 Congress Educational Programme will once again offer two highly sought-after workshops focusing on imaging for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). These workshops, developed in collaboration with the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) and the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) group, aim to educate healthcare professionals on imaging methods and their application in the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of disease in patients with IBD, in both adult and paediatric settings.

The 24th ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees designed for residents, fellows in gastroenterology and junior faculty will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on February 18, 2026, immediately prior to our next Congress. We are pleased to inform you that the preliminary programme for this course is already available. Since ECCO wants to make the course as attractive as possible for participants, we limit the general number of participants for each ECCO Member Country to two, which will ensure a more interactive atmosphere. The 12th ECCO Ultrasound Workshop – Advanced, organised in collaboration with ESGAR and IBUS, took place during the 20th Congress of ECCO in Berlin in February 2025 as part of ECCO's Educational Programme. The workshop was attended by 166 participants and brought together experts from various countries, facilitating valuable discussions on the latest advancements in intestinal ultrasound (IUS) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Ultrasound and MRI Focus The 6th ECCO Workshop on Imaging, a key part of ECCO's Educational Programme, took place during the 20th Congress of ECCO in Berlin in February 2025. Due to high interest, two identical sessions were held on the same day, allowing more participants to take part in this hands-on learning course. We thank all the speakers and tutors, whose expertise and dedication contributed to the success of the event.

The 4th ECCO Postgraduate Course in IBD was successfully held on-site during the 20th ECCO Congress in Berlin in February 2025. The course was split into two sessions, with the first session, entitled “Prepare yourself with the experts”, focusing on common complications in IBD practice, which were presented by renowned speakers who are key opinion leaders in the field.

The 23rd ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees took place on February 19, 2025, setting the scene for the 20th ECCO Congress in Berlin. It may have been cold outside, but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants or the engagement of the expert ECCO Faculty. A total of 100 participants from 36 countries were in attendance and this year we again welcomed participants not only from European ECCO Country Members but also from Latin America, Asia and Australia.

This summer saw the arrival of an additional novel way to participate in ECCO Education, the “Fast Facts in IBD 2024” Online Course. This live interactive online course took place on June 12, 2024 from 17:00 to 19:00 CEST. The course content was specially designed by EduCom for all gastroenterologists treating patients with IBD in their practice and was delivered in a format suited to virtual learning. 98 participants registered for this event (which was free of charge to all current ECCO Members).

The course is designed to bridge the gaps often found in IBD education during gastroenterology fellowships. It offers advanced fellows a thorough and multidisciplinary exploration of IBD, helping them to deepen their expertise. Additionally, it serves as a vital platform for young clinicians from around the world to exchange knowledge, compare medical practices and build professional networks that can lead to future collaborations. Participation is by invitation, with nominations made by ECCO National Representatives.
