21st Congress of ECCO: Overview of Scientific and Educational Programmes
ECCO News Associate Editor
Dear Colleagues and ECCO Friends,
Warm greetings from the ECCO News Team!
As we approach the end of 2025, it's time to mark your calendars for what promises to be an exceptional gathering of the IBD Community: the 21st Congress of ECCO, which will take place from February 18 to 21, 2026 in Stockholm!
This year, the ECCO Scientific Programme is taking a refreshing turn: rather than narrowing our focus, it will widen it. The concept of "holistic IBD care" isn't just another buzzword: it's an acknowledgement that treating IBD successfully means looking beyond single endpoints and isolated interventions. From patient-centered approaches to the often-overlooked role of B cells in disease pathogenesis, from strategic treatment sequencing to what the endoscope really tells us when we know how to look, the programme bridges the gap between cutting-edge discovery and the practical decisions we face every day in clinic.
Scientific Programme
The Scientific Programme, to be held from February 19 to 21, will include all scientific sessions and oral presentations of the best abstracts, guided poster tours, announcements of ECCO Fellowships and Grants, and summary presentations of new ECCO Guidelines. As always, the Congress registration fee includes access to all scientific sessions.
Here are some of the Scientific Programme highlights:
Educational Programme
As in previous years, the Educational Programme will start before the official Congress opening, offering an extensive range of courses and workshops spanning basic science, advanced imaging techniques including small bowel ultrasound and endoscopy, surgery, histology, multidisciplinary management and nursing practice. The programme serves all ECCO interest groups, including young gastroenterologists, surgeons, paediatricians, pathologists, IBD Nurses, allied health professionals and scientists.
Please note that educational activities have limited registration capacity and require separate registration, so we encourage early enrolment to secure your place.
Key highlights of the ECCO’26 Educational Programme include:
Beyond the lecture halls and poster sessions, don’t miss the ECCO Interaction event “Hearts & Minds” on Friday, February 20 at 20:00. This has become the signature networking event of the Congress, the place to see and be seen, to connect with colleagues old and new, and to engage with key opinion leaders. Anyone who has been to a previous ECCO Congress knows that it is a must, and everyone is welcome, but tickets are limited.
The entire ECCO Team has once again assembled a programme that brings together what matters most: cutting-edge science, hands-on education and the collaborative spirit that defines our community. Whether you are looking to refine your clinical approach, explore emerging research or simply reconnect with the global IBD Family, there is no substitute for being there in person.
So mark your calendars, book your flights and get ready for Stockholm!
We truly can't wait to see you all there.
Warmest regards,
Brigida and the ECCO News Team
