Report on the 24th ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees
EduCom Chair
The 24th ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees took place on February 18, 2026, in Stockholm, setting the scene for the ECCO Congress. Just over 100 participants attended, representing four continents, once again highlighting the global reach of the course.
This year’s programme built on previous editions but introduced a clear shift in focus, with less emphasis on traditional didactic lectures and a stronger orientation towards clinical practice, case-based learning and interactive discussion. While key aspects of IBD management were covered, theoretical content was more concise and closely integrated with real-life clinical scenarios.
The morning sessions combined essential concepts with case-based presentations, allowing participants to directly apply knowledge to practical decision-making. The importance of multidisciplinary care, including the role of surgery, was also addressed within this clinical framework.
Following the lunch break, which offered valuable opportunities for interaction with faculty, the afternoon programme placed particular emphasis on a holistic approach to IBD care, in line with the ECCO Strategy.
The highlight of the course was the interactive round table sessions, which played a central role this year. These small-group discussions allowed participants to engage actively with a range of clinically relevant topics, enhancing their understanding of day-to-day challenges in IBD management.
Overall, the course successfully evolved towards a more clinically driven and participant-centred format. It remains a lively and stimulating educational experience, and a memorable highlight of the ECCO Congress.
