The 8th ECCO Basic Imaging Workshop, organised in collaboration with ESGAR and IBUS, will take place on Wednesday, March 3, 2027, immediately ahead of the ECCO Congress in Copenhagen. This edition introduces an enhanced practical format designed to provide participants with a solid and clinically relevant foundation in intestinal ultrasound (IUS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment and monitoring of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The programme will combine expert-led introductory lectures with an extensive hands-on component, allowing participants to move directly from the principles of IUS and MRI to practical application. The ultrasound sessions will address key clinical scenarios encountered in daily practice, including the assessment of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, paediatric IBD, intestinal complications, postoperative recurrence and perianal Crohn’s Disease.

A major innovation of this edition will be the introduction of dedicated patient-based hands-on stations, where participants will have the opportunity to perform intestinal ultrasound directly on patients under the supervision of experienced ECCO/IBUS faculty. The workshop will also feature puppet-based simulation stations and interactive video stations, providing additional opportunities to develop practical skills and discuss challenging cases with experts.

The MRI component, delivered in collaboration with ESGAR, will introduce participants to the principles of MRI in IBD, followed by interactive case-based learning focused on image interpretation and the role of MRI in diagnosis and monitoring.

By combining lectures, patient-based hands-on training, simulation, video-based learning and interactive case discussion, the 8th ECCO Basic Imaging Workshop aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and everyday clinical practice. The new format will offer participants a highly practical and engaging opportunity to develop imaging skills that can be directly applied to the assessment and monitoring of patients with IBD.

The workshop is aimed primarily at gastroenterologists, radiologists, surgeons and paediatricians, while other healthcare professionals are also welcome to participate. ECCO Membership for 2027 will be required. Register here.

We look forward to welcoming participants to Copenhagen for this new and highly practical edition of the ECCO Basic Imaging Workshop.
