Dear IBD colleagues and friends,

Warm greetings from the ECCO News Team as we head towards the end of this challenging year.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone in one way or another, we at ECCO have been adapting to the new circumstances.  The ECCO Team has been working hard to continue to provide not only the best standards of care for IBD patients but also high-quality research, education and training opportunities.

ECCO has taken up the challenge of organising yet another top quality meeting, which on this occasion will be held a little later than our usual conference dates. We would like to invite you to the 16th Congress of ECCO in Copenhagen in July of 2021, during the beautiful Danish summer!

This year, the Scientific Programme will be structured around the main topic “IBD Precise”, where we shall be stressing the need for tailored strategies to diagnose and treat IBD in the era of -omics and newly available effective drugs. The programme will include cutting-edge basic science, translational medicine and clinical sessions and will offer attendees a unique opportunity to learn from the world’s leading specialists in all areas of IBD, with the emphasis on a clear practical approach.

Held from Thursday to Saturday, July 8–10, 2021, the Scientific Programme will include all scientific sessions and oral presentations of the best abstracts of the Congress, as well as guided poster tours. As every year, the Congress registration fee includes access to all scientific sessions.

Here are some of the highlights of the programme:

  • Sophisticated strategies within reach
  • Safety first?
  • Hot and (almost) happening
  • Next generation diagnostics
  • The young and the old
  • Bottoms behaving badly
  • Milestones in clinical care
  • IBD horizons
  • Basic science: The microbiome as game changer in IBD?
  • CD and UC: Similar disease burden and treatment goals? Is it the organ or the disease process?
  • Personalised medicine
  • ECCO Lecture

The Educational Programme of the 16th Congress of ECCO will offer a wide range of courses targeting ECCO’s different interest groups, including young gastroenterologists, surgeons, paediatricians, pathologists, IBD Nurses, dietitians, allied health professionals and scientists. The Educational Programme will start prior to the official start of the ECCO Congress and courses will take place from July 7–9, 2021.

The programme is very diverse, ranging from the elaboration of clinical guidelines to two radiology courses offered in collaboration with ESGAR, a School for Clinical Trialists and our Basic Science and SciCom Workshops. An overview of these activities can be found below.

Please note that courses/workshops may run concurrently and that these educational activities have a limited registration capacity, so we encourage you to register at your earliest convenience.

You can feast your eyes on the Educational Programme by clicking on the links below:

We are counting on your contribution to make the 16th Congress of ECCO a great success!

Together we will ensure that our annual ECCO Congress is the best arena to share, connect and learn about IBD.

We look forward to seeing you in Copenhagen!

Ignacio and Nuha
