The 13th European Colorectal Congress starts on Sunday December 1, 2019 with a Masterclass in Colorectal Surgery and ends on Thursday December 5, 2019. About 1,400 participants from 80 countries are expected to attend the St. Gallen Colorectal Week (www.colorectalsurgery.eu, @ECCongress). Michel Adamina, from S-ECCO, is co-organising the meeting.
The European Colorectal Congress of St. Gallen covers hot topics in colorectal diseases, with more than 45 lectures by key opinion leaders and emphasis on interdisciplinary decision-making and treatment. In 2019, renowned experts will address current developments in colorectal surgery, including contemporary management of diverticulitis, the role of the microbiome and of the mesentery, prevention and treatment of anastomotic leaks, and technical pearls and pitfalls in laparoscopic surgery. Advanced robotic technologies, artificial intelligence, the importance of human factors, and the role of social media in research and clinical practice will be reviewed, as will the surgical management of endometriosis and volvulus. On the oncology side, recent developments in intra- and perioperative therapy will be presented, along with image-guided surgery, tailored approaches in hereditary cancer syndromes, and treatment of locoregionally advanced disease.
One major feature of the European Colorectal Congress of St. Gallen is its dedicated session on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, which is endorsed by ECCO. Experts will discuss clinical challenges: André d’Hoore (Leuven), will address controversies in IBD surgery, Janindra Warusavitarne (London) will discuss the management of dysplasia in IBD, and Gerhard Rogler (Zürich) and Justin Davies (Cambridge) will cover the hot issue of perianal Crohn’s Disease in the interdisciplinary context.
Further highlights are the Lars Pahlman Lecture by Steven Wexner (Weston, Florida) and the lecture on 3D printing in surgery by the EAES President, Andrea Pietrabissa (Pavia).
The European Colorectal Congress of St. Gallen and its Masterclass are accredited for up to 26 Swiss CME credits. They are endorsed by national and international organisations, including the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery and ECCO.
