Dear ECCO Friends,

With the summer approaching we hope you enjoy the second Issue of ECCO NEWS where you will find the preliminary scientific programme and our educational Activities at ECCO’23. As usual we offer a wide range of Workshops and Courses for IBD Nurses, surgeons, young gastroenterologists, paediatricians, scientists and allied healthcare professionals.

Abstract submission for ECCO’23 is now open! Please send your abstract for consideration. The ECCO’23 Congress will be onsite again and better than ever. Your prime research work deserves to be presented in Copenhagen!

The ECCO NEWS associate editors have started a brand-new series in this ECCO NEWS Issue: “Meet the Reps” is an interview with the ECCO National Representatives in order to reinforce synergies on a local level. In the first edition Triana Lobaton Ortega (National Representative of Belgium) is talking about the projects of the Belgian local study group BIRD.

After the long Covid-19 pandemic the ECCO Association is able to start new projects again such as the Young Researcher Award. ECCO is also catching up with activities that needed to be paused, like the IBD Nurse Education Programme or our ECCO Educational Workshops. Please check the Call for ECCO Educational Workshop destinations 2023 and the report of the first ECCO Workshop after the pandemic in Cascais, Portugal.

This issue features a special message to new members of the ECCO Committees. P-ECCO welcomes Richard Hansen and Dror Shouval; SciCom elected former Y-ECCO Chair Isabelle Cleynen. Amy Lighter, new Committee Member of S-ECCO, is introduced in a video interview in this issue as well.

Do not forget to take a peek into the Y-ECCO Literature Reviews and check other open calls!

Finally, I encourage all of you to read the letter from our e-learning Ambassador in order to check our new e-learning content and also have a look at the results of the studies awarded with “The best investigator-initiated study (IIS) Abstract Awards” at ECCO’22.

I really hope you enjoy this issue, stay safe and tuned!

Laurent Peyrin-Biroulet
