GuiCom has developed important and world-wide recognised guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of IBD. In order to create standardised guidelines of the highest quality, regular rotation and recruitment of highly experienced candidates is crucial. It is my great pleasure to introduce Johan Burisch, who will become a new GuiCom Member at the beginning of 2024. Johan was selected from a large group of excellent applicants for this position.

Johan Burisch

Johan was born in Nairobi, Kenya, grew up in Denmark and obtained his medical degree from the University of Copenhagen. He subsequently developed a particular clinical and scientific interest in IBD and is currently working as a gastroenterologist at the Hvidore University Hospital in Copenhagen.

During his career to date, Johan has conducted extensive research on IBD, focusing on epidemiology and disease course. He has published extensively in highly ranked GI journals and has been primarily involved in various international collaborations and research projects. Johan has received numerous awards and recognitions during the last couple of years.  As an editorial board member for Gut and for Alimentary Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics, as well as an associate editor of JCC, he is deeply involved in the rapidly evolving field of IBD. Johan has already contributed to the development of various national and international guidelines and was previously engaged as a member of the guideline taskforce of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG).

With all of his recent scientific achievements and contributions to the field of IBD, Johan is in an excellent position to contribute to the future development of IBD guidelines.

GuiCom is really looking forward to collaborating with him on various ongoing and future guideline projects and cordially welcomes him as a new GuiCom Member.
