The 20th Congress of ECCO in numbers
8311 delegates attended the 20th Congress of ECCO in Berlin, Germany
The 20th Congress of ECCO, Berlin, Germany – Inflammatory Bowel Diseases 2025, held on February 19-22, 2025, attracted a total number of 8,311 delegates from 99 different countries. Since the inaugural ECCO Congress in 2006 in Amsterdam, at which there were 350 delegates, participant numbers have steadily increased, as shown in the graph below. Despite the COVID-19 outbreak in the beginning of 2020, we are happy that this high number of delegates had the chance to participate in the ECCO’25 Congress in Berlin.
The pie chart below divides delegate attendance at the 20th Congress of ECCO by continent. Approximately 75% of all participants came from Europe and about 25% from outside of Europe.
The pie chart below illustrates the professions represented at the 20th Congress of ECCO. The majority of participants were Physicians (34%), followed by representatives from Industy (18%) and Endoscopists (11%). Other attendees included clinical researchers (8%) and IBD Nurses (6%), Fellows/Trainees (4,5%), Scientists (4%) along with pharmacists (3%), surgeons, and paediatricians (2% each). Students, Dietitians, Research Nurses, Radiologists and Psychologists represented approx. 7,5% of all delegates.
High-quality Abstracts
A key component of the success of the ECCO Congress is the rising number of high-quality abstracts accepted for oral, digital oral and poster presentations. An outline of the evolution of abstract submissions is displayed here:
