✝ 10 March 2019
Wolfgang Eigner |
Dear Friends and Colleagues!
It is with regret and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear colleague and friend Dr. Wolfgang Eigner in his early thirties.
After his studies, Wolfgang worked at the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of Vienna, where he was about to finish his specialization in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Wolfgang was a dedicated and caring physician as well as a gifted and inspired researcher at the beginning of his scientific career with a specific interest in inflammatory bowel diseases and celiac disease. Overflowing with ideas, he turned those into his first publications and numerous clinical projects. I was lucky to work with him recently on a manuscript he submitted at the beginning of March this year. He presented that work at the ECCO conference in Copenhagen last week, where Y-ECCO posed the beloved forum for his scientific exchange with peers and opinion leaders.
Apart from his professional competence, Wolfgang loved life and the people. He radiated an engaging and motivating spirit and his optimism was infectious and inspiring. His attitude was imbibed with decency and dignity and his reliability posed a major virtue.
Wolfgang’s loss early in life is beyond comprehension, but his positive and unique ways of interacting will always be remembered by those who had the chance to meet him. Wolfgang will always remain a part of our hearts.
Wolfgang, we miss you.
