The 21st ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees, Copenhagen 2023

The IBD Intensive Course for Trainees will take place over one day on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, prior to the start of the main ECCO Congress.

The ECCO IBD Intensive Course for Trainees has become a tradition. It is the oldest ECCO Educational Initiative, having been conceived back in 2003 before the launch of the ECCO Congress, and is the cornerstone of the Educational Committee’s activities. I remember attending the “2nd Intensive Clinical Course for Residents, Fellows and Junior Faculty”, delivered as an affiliated course during the 140th Falk Symposium in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in 2004. This was perhaps the most comprehensive IBD course that I had ever attended as a trainee and it inspired me to further in-depth engagement with IBD.

Dear IBD colleagues and friends,

Warm greetings from the ECCO News Team at the beginning of this hopeful spring, following two very challenging years.

After two years of meeting each other virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are optimistic that next year we will return to face-to-face interaction at the 18th Congress of ECCO in the vibrant city of Copenhagen. At last, we will able to share and exchange knowledge and ideas in person and not from behind a screen!

Scientific sessions will be held from Thursday to Saturday, March 2–4, 2023, while the Educational Programme will start earlier in the week, on Wednesday, March 1, and will finish at the end of the morning of March 2 in order to allow for a seamless experience with no overlapping sessions and to cater for all delegates. We kindly ask you to take a careful look at the ECCO'23 Congress Website for further details.

In contrast to what we had hoped, the 11th S-ECCO Masterclass was again a virtual event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, as everyone has slowly got used to online conferences, it almost felt intimate to meet like this once more.

While the ECCO Basic Imaging Workshop in collaboration with ESGAR had to be postponed until next year’s ECCO Congress due to the need to change to a virtual format at rather short notice, the 9th ECCO Ultrasound Workshop – Advanced in collaboration with ESGAR did take place and proved a big success, bringing together 114 colleagues from 34 countries, including not just European countries but also, for example, the United States, Uruguay, Singapore, Japan, Korea, India and Australia.
